Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities.
We offer the opportunity for students to gain the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze and Silver.
The Award is achieved by completing a personal program of activities in four sections:
- Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community
- Physical: improving in an area of sport or fitness activities
- Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests
- Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey.
The time spent on each activity is dependent on the Award undertaken.
More details about the DofE can be found at www.dofe.org and via the letters that are sent to participants and their parents.
Enrolment occurs for Bronze in the second half term of Year 9. Letters are distributed, via email and on the Headteacher’s Bulletin when Bronze is launched each year. Silver is offered to those students who have completed and been awarded the Bronze Award.
While enrolment needs parental permission and consent is required for trips, students should try to take as much responsibility for their own DofE as possible, for instance by: communicating with Leaders and Assessors themselves; keeping their own records of participation in their sections; and importantly packing their own rucksacks for the trips!
